1. Divi's Laboratories Brokerage firm Citi has initiated its coverage with a 'buy' rating, propelling the drugmaker's shares nearly 7 percent higher to an all-time high of Rs 5,925 on October 9. Alongside its optimistic outlook, Citi set a price target of Rs 6,400 for the stock, the highest on the Street, suggesting over a 15 percent upside from the previous closing price. With this, Citi also became the first brokerage to see Divi's Labs stock surpassing the Rs 6,000-mark.

2. Tata Consultancy Services is scheduled to report second-quarter results on Thursday. Here is what you need to know:NET PROFIT: Tata Consultancy Services is expected to post an 11% increase in net profit to 126.16 billion rupees, equivalent to $1.50 billion, for the three months ended September, according to the consensus estimate of 11 analysts polled by FactSet. That would compare with 113.42 billion rupees in the same period a year earlier.REVENUE: Second-quarter revenue is estimated to have risen 7.4% to 641.32 billion rupees, according to FactSet.

The company's shares have risen 12% so far this year. The stock was recently 0.4% higher at 4,268.15 rupees on Wednesday.WHAT TO WATCH:

  • First-quarter profit from its banking, financial services and insurance segment increased 10% to 60.11 billion rupees. Investors will be focusing on the pace of earnings growth in the biggest client segment.
  • Tata Consultancy Services partnered with state-owned telecommunications company Bharat Sanchar Nigam to roll out a 4G network across India earlier this year. Investors will look at whether the deal resulted in higher earnings for the information-technology services provider.
  • The company's headcount will also be in focus after it grew its workforce to 606,998 at the end of June from 601,546 at the end of March, reversing a recent decline.

3. India's coal-fired power output fell for a second straight month in September on an annual basis due to slower growth in electricity use and a surge in solar generation, a Reuters review of data from the federal grid regulator showed.The decline reflects a shift in fuel use patterns in the world's fastest growing major economy and third-largest greenhouse gas emitter. It follows 47 straight months of year-over-year growth in coal use for power generation.
